Discover laqi
What is laqi?
laqi makes home lights that reproduce the sun's path, all by themselves. This is what's called circadian lighting.
In the morning and during the day, the light is solar and energizing. At the end of the day, it warms up. In the evening, it gently dims down to a firelight glow.
The color follows the sun in your city. The intensity follows your wake-up and bedtime hours. You set them once in the app, and then you don't have to think about them again.
Why have light that changes throughout the day?
Because our body is regulated by light.
In the eye, certain cells aren't for seeing. They inform our internal clock about the time of day by measuring the amount of light and its blue content. This signal helps us be fully awake during the day and fall asleep in the evening.
Outside, the signal is clear: strong, cool light in the morning, weak and orange in the evening. Inside, it gets blurred. Our rooms are often too dark during the day, and our bulbs too bright at night.
With laqi, the house adapts to your body, not the other way around.
What scientific knowledge is this based on?
On a well-established subject: light is the primary reference for the internal clock.
In 2022, an international group of researchers published common recommendations for indoor light (Brown et al., PLOS Biology). In short: plenty of light during the day, little in the evening, as little as possible at night. Our color and intensity curves follow this principle.
One clarification, to be honest: laqi is not a medical device and does not treat any sleep disorders. Household light is just one of the clock's regulators. Outdoor light and your schedule matter too. If you have been sleeping poorly for a long time, talk to a doctor.
What is the difference compared to a smart bulb?
A smart bulb waits for your commands. A laqi light follows the sun without you having to program anything, no scenes or routines.
It doesn't need Wi-Fi or a subscription.
And it goes much lower in color temperature. Most "warm" bulbs stop around 2,700 K. The laqi cycle goes down to 1,800 K, the color of a flame.
Is laqi a light therapy lamp?
Not in the usual sense. A light therapy lamp delivers very intense light, around 10,000 lux, during a short morning session.
laqi lights shine at the intensity of a home and accompany you all day: sunlit in the morning, softer in the afternoon, then they recreate the light of a fire in the evening.
These are two different approaches, and one doesn't replace the other. To learn more: Light therapy: miracle in a box or real treatment?
Why don't your lights change to different colors?
By choice. Our lights only provide natural light, from firelight glow to daylight.
That is what allows for very good color rendering: your skin or your plants keep their true colors. Colored LEDs (RGB) cannot achieve this level.
Who is behind laqi?
A small French team, founded in Paris in 2022 by Joff Turner.
Three years of research and development preceded the first sales in January 2025. In the meantime, an initial Kickstarter campaign was 133% funded and then delivered.
In 2026, La Boréale received the silver medal at the Concours Lépine, and its magnetic connection system is the subject of a filed patent.
Where are your products made?
L'Œuf and La Boréale are assembled in France. Their electronic circuit boards are manufactured in Annecy.
The light segments and bulbs are produced by partners in China according to our specifications.
The range
Where should I start?
With a pilot. It is the one that knows the time and sets the tempo for all your laqi lights.
There are two, which do the same job in two different forms:
- La Boréale, a line of light to attach to the wall, which lights up a room (see availability).
- L'Œuf, a small table lamp, which also serves as a night light and a gentle alarm clock.
Then, add laqi bulbs to the lamps you already have. A single pilot is enough for the whole home.
L'Œuf or La Boréale: which one should I choose?
Inside, it is the same technology. La Boréale's electronic board is an evolution of L'Œuf's. Both control all laqi bulbs and are set with the same app.
The difference is in the shape and the light they provide:
- La Boréale is a true lighting source: 2.40m of light in the kit, to attach to the wall, on a shelf, or behind a headboard. Ideal for lighting a room without touching your existing lamps.
- L'Œuf is discreet: an ambient light to place on a bedside table or shelf. Ideal if you mainly want to outfit your existing lamps with laqi bulbs.
Can I use laqi in a child's bedroom?
Yes. L'Œuf fits there nicely: in the evening, its light gently dims down to a firelight glow, then stays very dim at night, like a night light.
In the morning, the gentle wake-up brings the light back gradually, at the time you have chosen.
La Boréale works too: it runs on 24 V, stays barely warm, and its segments are made of silicone, with no glass.
Do the bulbs work without a pilot?
No. On its own, a bulb doesn't know what time it is: the pilot sends it the right color and intensity, minute by minute.
You can buy bulbs separately if you already have a pilot, L'Œuf or La Boréale.
Which bulbs do you offer?
Four shapes, with exactly the same functions:
- The Globe: a large lacquered glass sphere, filament-style (E27 base).
- The Oblong: an elongated shape, vintage bulb style (E27 base).
- The Ovi: the most classic bulb shape (E27 base).
- The Spot: for recessed spotlights and adjustable fixtures (GU10 base), with a wide 120° beam angle.
The three E27 bulbs provide 750 lumens each, a little less than a classic 60W bulb. They are €34 each, as is the Spot.
Are my light fixtures compatible?
Look at the base of your current bulb:
- the "large screw," the most common, is an E27: The Globe, The Oblong, and The Ovi screw into it;
- spotlights with two pins, which you turn a quarter turn to attach, are GU10: this is the Spot format.
One important point: plug your laqi bulbs into a circuit without a dimmer. The pilot handles the intensity adjustment; a wall dimmer would interfere with it.
Do you have other bases, like the small E14?
Not for the moment. Other formats are being studied.
What is the "Première édition" Pack?
It is L'Œuf with 1 or 3 laqi bulbs of your choice (Globe, Oblong, Ovi, or a mix of the three). Everything you need to start, cheaper than buying the same products separately.
It is called "Première édition" because it is the first generation of laqi, in its original packaging and visual identity. Since 2026, laqi has a new identity, and its future packs will be built around La Boréale.
In use, nothing changes: same app, same solar cycle. The bulbs in the pack are those from our first series (800 lumens, from 2,200 to 5,800 K, CRI above 80). They also work with La Boréale.
It is available while stocks last.
What is the mask for?
The Mask is a mulberry silk sleep mask, which comes from Suzhou, China, the capital of embroidered silk.
It complements evening light: at home, while traveling, or at a hotel, it cuts out stray light so your night stays truly dark.
The light
What does the light look like throughout the day?
It follows two benchmarks.
Color follows the sun in your city. Solar light around noon, up to 5,600 K. It warms up as the sun goes down, down to a firelight glow around 1,800 K.
Intensity follows your hours. At your wake-up time, it rises gradually for 30 minutes. It goes back down gently during the two hours before your bedtime.
At night, the light stays very dim, like a night light. Or it turns off completely, if you have chosen the gentle wake-up option.
Each product has its exact color range, indicated on its product page.
Do your lights filter blue light?
They don't need a filter: it's the color of the light itself that changes.
During the day, the light is solar, with its natural share of blue, just like outside. In the evening, it warms up and goes down to 1,800 K, a firelight glow with almost no blue left.
For screens, however, it changes nothing: remember to use their night mode.
What is color rendering, and why is it important?
Color rendering (CRI) measures the fidelity of colors under a light, out of 100. Sunlight is at 100.
Many LEDs are around 80: hues look a bit dull, skin a bit grey. La Boréale and our bulbs (Le Globe, L'Oblong, L'Ovi, Le Spot) are above 90, the level used in museums and photo studios. The first-series bulbs in the Pack Première édition are above 80.
Does the light flicker?
No. Many LEDs flicker very quickly, without us seeing it, which can tire the eyes and create bands when filming.
laqi lights are controlled to stay stable: no flickering, even during intensity changes.
Is it powerful enough to light up a room?
Yes. Each E27 bulb provides 750 lumens, a little less than a classic 60W bulb.
La Boréale goes up to 5,000 lumens per base, enough to light a room on its own.
Why are your products rated E or F on the energy label?
Since 2021, the European scale is much more demanding: the vast majority of LEDs sold today are rated E, F, or G. Our E27 bulbs are E, the Spot and La Boréale are F.
The label measures efficiency in cold light, at full power. But our lights go down to a firelight glow, with very good color rendering. Producing this warm light costs a little energy at each conversion: that's physics. A better-rated LED generally provides cooler light and duller colors.
And the class says nothing about your bill: our lights spend most of the day well below their maximum power.
How much does it consume?
An E27 bulb consumes a maximum of 6.6 W. A La Boréale segment, a maximum of 18 W.
But the intensity varies all day, so the actual consumption is much lower. For example, two La Boréale segments on for six hours a day consume about 25 kWh per year, which is a few euros of electricity.
How long do your products last?
The LEDs. Those of La Boréale are rated for more than 50,000 hours: at this point, at least half of the segments are still glowing at 70% of their original power.
Updates. The pilot software updates from the app. New features therefore also arrive on products already installed at your place.
Repair. The system is modular: if an element has an issue, we replace that element, not the whole thing. La Boréale segments, for example, can be changed one by one.
Installation and app
How do I install my laqi lights?
- Plug in your pilot, L'Œuf or La Boréale.
- Screw in your laqi bulbs and turn them on at the switch.
- Download the laqi app, free on iPhone and Android, and let yourself be guided: it configures the pilot, then adds your bulbs one by one.
- Enter your city and your wake-up and bedtime hours.
It takes a few minutes. There is no construction or tools required.
Do I need the application daily?
No. The app is for installation and changing your settings. Afterward, the pilot keeps everything in memory and runs the cycle all by itself.
Your phone can stay off, or far from your home. The pilot, however, must remain plugged in.
Is Wi-Fi, an account, or a subscription required?
No, none of that.
Your phone talks to the pilot via Bluetooth, only when you open the app. The pilot talks to the bulbs via Zigbee, a very low-power radio, from the same family as remote controls.
Everything happens at your place, without a remote server. If laqi disappeared tomorrow, your lights would continue to follow the sun.
Why does the app ask for my city?
To calculate the sun's path at your location: its sunrise time, sunset time, and height in the sky. This is what sets the color of the light throughout the day.
Your city stays in your phone and in your pilot. It is not sent anywhere else.
Does it emit waves constantly?
No. The pilot sends a short instruction to the bulbs about once a minute, and nothing when everything is off. Bluetooth is only used when the app is open.
These are very low-power radios. There is no Wi-Fi.
Can I continue using my wall switch?
Yes, as usual. When you turn it back on, the bulb immediately resumes the lighting for the current time of day.
What is the distance between the hub and the bulbs?
For a reliable connection, keep your bulbs within about 15 meters of the hub.
Thick walls, an internet router, or large electrical appliances can reduce this distance. If a bulb frequently disconnects, move the hub closer or place it more centrally in your home.
How many bulbs can one hub manage?
Up to 64 bulbs, whether it is the Œuf or La Boréale. More than enough to equip an entire house.
Can I have several hubs in my home?
Yes, with the new laqi app launching in November 2026: it manages multiple hubs in the same house, for example, La Boréale in the living room and the Œuf in a bedroom.
Can several people use the app?
Yes. Install the laqi app on another phone or tablet and start the setup: it will retrieve the settings already saved in the hub.
Can I move the hub?
Yes. The connection to the bulbs does not depend on its location. Simply keep it plugged in and within range of your bulbs.
Do your lights work with Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, or Home Assistant?
Not yet. Our lights are designed to function on their own, without a cloud or third-party hub.
Integrations are currently being studied. When they arrive, they will be added to existing products via an update.
Daily Settings
How do I change my wake-up and sleep times?
In the laqi app, in just a few seconds. You can change them as often as you like, for a weekend or different schedules.
What is the difference between standard mode and gentle wake-up?
Both follow the same cycle during the day. The difference occurs at night.
- Standard mode: at night, the light stays very dim, like a nightlight. Practical for getting up without being blinded.
- Gentle wake-up (the dawn simulator, the moon icon in the app): at night, everything turns off. At your wake-up time, the light gradually returns, like a sunrise.
How do I activate the gentle wake-up?
With the current app (Œuf):
- In the app, leave the Œuf in automatic mode and check the small moon.
- Check your wake-up and sleep times.
- In the evening, leave the Œuf turned on: press the orange button under the Œuf or tap the large gray box in the app.
Why leave it on? Just like a bulb turned off at the wall switch, a light turned off will not turn itself back on. When on, the Œuf remains dark all night, then lights up at your wake-up time.
Can I adjust the light myself, for a specific occasion?
Yes. The app's manual mode lets you choose the intensity and color at any time. On La Boréale, a double press on the button also switches it to manual mode.
Switch back to automatic mode for the light to resume its solar cycle.
What happens after a power outage?
When power returns, the hub resumes the cycle from where it left off.
If the light does not match the current time, open the laqi app: upon launching, it will send the exact time to the hub.
Does the light change with the seasons?
The color, yes: it follows the sun's path in your city, which evolves throughout the year. In winter, warm light arrives earlier in the evening, just like outside.
The intensity, however, remains fixed to your set wake-up and sleep times.
What happens when the clocks change?
Nothing to do: the hub switches to summer and winter time on its own.
If in doubt, open the laqi app: upon launching, it sends the exact time to the hub.
Troubleshooting
How do I add a bulb?
- Screw in the bulb and turn it on at the wall switch.
- In the laqi app, add a bulb and start the search.
- Wait: detection may take a minute.
If the bulb is not found, it may have already been paired with another hub. Reset it (see below), then try again.
How do I reset a bulb?
Everything is done using the wall switch, following this rhythm:
- Turn the bulb off for 5 seconds.
- Turn it on for 1 second.
- Repeat this 5 times in a row: 5 seconds off, 1 second on.
The bulb will flash: it has been reset and is ready to be added back into the app.
Be careful with the order: it is 5 seconds off, 1 second on, not the other way around. If it doesn't work on the first try, repeat while counting out loud.
How do I reset the Œuf or La Boréale?
The procedure is the same for both hubs:
- Unplug the hub.
- Press and hold its button: the orange button under the Œuf, or the button on the base of La Boréale.
- Plug the hub back in without releasing the button.
- Release after 5 seconds.
The hub will perform a light sequence: it has been reset.
Then, delete the laqi app from your phone and reinstall it. Otherwise, it might try to retrieve the old configuration.
How do I perform a full reset?
When several things stop responding, starting from scratch fixes most cases. In this order:
- Delete the laqi app from your phone: the app itself, not just its shortcut.
- Reset the hub (the Œuf or La Boréale).
- Reinstall the app and configure the hub.
- Reset each bulb, then add them one by one.
This is also how you can renumber your bulbs in the order of your choice.
My bulb changes color, but the app can no longer find it.
The hub still recognizes the bulb, but the app has forgotten it. To synchronize them again, you must perform a full reset (see the previous question).
My bulb is stuck at the minimum setting.
This is a sign that it is no longer receiving instructions from the hub.
- Turn it off and back on at the wall switch.
- Check that it is within 15 meters of the hub.
- If nothing changes, reset it and add it again in the app.
A bulb frequently disconnects.
- Unplug the hub for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Move it closer to the bulb or further away from your internet router.
- If the issue persists, reset the bulb and add it again.
The light is bright in the evening and dim in the morning.
The hub has likely received the wrong time from your phone.
- In your phone's settings, set the date and time to automatic, and the display to 24-hour format.
- Close the laqi app completely, then reopen it: it will push the time back to the hub.
If nothing changes, perform a full reset.
The app cannot connect to the hub.
- Check that your phone's Bluetooth is enabled and that the app has all required permissions.
- Move closer to the hub and check that it is plugged in.
- Close the app completely and reopen it.
Still stuck? Perform a full reset, or write to us: we will look into it with you.
La Boréale
When will I be able to get La Boréale?
La Boréale launches on Kickstarter on October 23, 2026. The first deliveries are expected in January 2027.
It will then be available here, on laqi.co, at €249 per kit. To be notified of the launch, sign up here.
Why use Kickstarter?
Because it is what allows a small team like ours to manufacture a new object.
Contributors reserve La Boréale in advance at a reduced price. Their orders fund the molds, certifications, and initial production. In return, they are served first and follow the manufacturing process closely.
What is in the kit?
The base, two 1.20 m light segments (2.40 m of light in total), a magnetic cable, and the power supply. There is nothing else to buy.
How do you mount La Boréale?
With the adhesive strip on the back of the segments, without tools. Peel, press onto a clean, flat surface: a wall, a shelf, a ceiling, or the top of a headboard.
The segments connect via magnets. No drilling, no holes to fill if you move.
Can it be bent, or used to create an angle?
Yes. The silicone segments bend up to a radius of 10 cm, about the curve of a plate. Only on a single plane: do not twist them on themselves.
For a sharp angle, connect two segments with a magnetic cable. A reversing cable also allows you to flip a segment.
Can it be extended?
Yes, by adding segments end-to-end. For a longer installation, a more powerful power supply is offered.
The total power remains capped at 5,000 lumens per base. Beyond about four segments, the light is spread over a greater length: it becomes softer, not brighter.
Does it heat up? Is it safe for children?
La Boréale runs on 24 V and stays barely warm. The segments are made of silicone, with no exposed glass or electronics. It is suitable for children's bedrooms as well as homes with pets.
Can it be installed in a bathroom?
The segments are water-resistant (IP65 rating): they are suitable for a bathroom, away from the shower and bathtub. The base, however, must remain dry.
La Boréale is not intended for outdoor use.
On the first connection, the light stays at maximum brightness. Is this normal?
Yes. Until your times are set, La Boréale shines at full solar power. Open the laqi app to configure it: it will then follow the sun's cycle.
