What lighting for a child's bedroom?

Quel éclairage pour une chambre d’enfant ?

Reading time: 7 min.

In short:

Children's sleep is sensitive. Poor lighting can be enough to disrupt everything. Here's how to choose the right light to help them sleep well, grow, and feel calm.

📌 Summary

Infant sleep: a fragile clockwork

It takes time for children's circadian rhythms to stabilize. For the first few months, it's nonexistent. Then, between 4 months and 3 years, it gradually develops, influenced by daylight and routines.

Lighting that's too bright or poorly adapted can disrupt this mechanism. Children may have trouble falling asleep, wake up at night, or get up very early. But disrupting their clock often means disrupting the whole family!

Blue light, LEDs and bad habits

Many nightlights or basic LED bulbs emit a high proportion of blue light, even when they appear "warm." This light blocks the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone.

Children have a heightened sensitivity to blue light. Their larger pupils and more transparent lenses allow more light to pass through. As a result, even a weak light source can be enough to delay everything.

How to properly light a child's room

During the day, we prefer natural or dynamic light, close to sunlight. In the evening, we switch to a soft and very warm ambiance (< 2700K). No harsh ceiling lighting, but several indirect and subdued sources.

A night light can be useful, but it should be very dim (less than 30 lux) and ideally red or amber. It should not flood the entire space but create a discreet halo.

The Laqi solution for short sleepers

Laqi bulbs adjust their intensity and temperature depending on the time of day. Your child is exposed to the right light at the right time, without you having to think about it.

  • During the day: dynamic light for playing, reading or drawing
  • In the evening: warm light to soothe and encourage sleep

One button, one smart bulb, and protected sleep.

đź’¬ FAQ

Should every child's room have a night light?

No, only if the child feels the need. And it must be very weak and well-directed.

Are LEDs dangerous for children's eyes?

Not all of them. Poor-quality or poorly adjusted LEDs can be harmful. Choose suitable solutions.

How to create a soothing light routine?

By gradually lowering the intensity in the evening and favoring a very warm light (< 2200K).

Good lighting is also common sense

A happy child sleeps well, and light plays a key role. Rather than searching for the perfect lamp, choose a solution that adapts to their needs, day after day.
